Investment Team
Ruben F. Salinas III, General Partner
Mr. Salinas is Managing Partner of Johns Creek Partners and leads the firm’s acquisition sourcing activities. Prior to founding Johns Creek Partners, Mr. Salinas was the Director of Strategic Marketing for C.R. Bard’s Medical Division. While at Bard, he was instrumental in executing the division’s double-digit growth strategy driven by acquisition and new product development. Prior to his work at Bard, Mr. Salinas worked for The General Electric Co. Having graduated at the top of his class from GE’s prestigious Operations Management Leadership Program, he subsequently was certified as a Six Sigma Black Belt and held leadership positions in Marketing and Product Management within GE’s Healthcare and Homeland Protection divisions. Mr. Salinas holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Mexico's Monterrey Institute of Technology.
Robert Anderson, Limited Partner
Mr. Anderson has been involved in both healthcare distribution and manufacturing for 29 years. He began his career at Anderson Surgical Supply Co. as a sales representative in St. Petersburg, FL. Subsequent to Anderson Surgical, Mr. Anderson joined C.R. Bard, Inc. where he has worked as a Territory Manager, District Manager, and Director of National Accounts for three different Bard divisions over the last 22 years. Mr. Anderson graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1976.
R. Scott Asen, Limited Partner
Mr. Asen graduated from Harvard College in 1966. In 1966 and 1967 he co-authored a study of the put and call options markets, How to Make Money Selling Stock Options. Mr. Asen joined the brokerage firm of Mitchell, Hutchins & Co. in 1967 where he worked in the investment advisory department with responsibility for research on small technology stocks. Between 1969 and 1974, Mr. Asen was a portfolio manager with Research and Science Investors, a New York based venture capital and money management firm. From 1974 until 1977, Mr. Asen was self-employed as a journalist specializing in reporting on municipal finance issues. In 1977, Mr. Asen became a general partner of Pioneer Ventures, a group of venture capital and special situations entities created by a wealthy New York investor. Throughout the following two decades, Mr. Asen had primary responsibility for managing the various Pioneer Ventures entities, which were successfully liquidated over a number of years with final payments made in 2002. Mr. Asen is currently a private investor managing a portfolio of equity and real estate investments for his personal account. At present, Mr. Asen sits on the boards of three privately held companies. He is a Trustee of Groton School and The Paris Review and a board member of the Mt. Desert Land and Garden Preserve.
Craig Burr, Limited Partner
Mr. Burr's career has been devoted almost exclusively to venture capital and private equity activities, having founded Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co. in 1979. Previously, Mr. Burr was a partner at TA Associates. In addition, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the New England Venture Capital Association and currently serves on the Board of Directors of several private companies. Mr. Burr received his Bachelors Degree, cum laude, from Harvard College and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
David Carver, Limited Partner
Mr. Carver is a co-founder of Search Fund Partners, a private equity investment firm specializing in small-cap buyout investments sourced via search funds. He and his partner, Rich Kelley, have spent the last three years developing and managing the SFP portfolio. He is on the board of ProService Hawaii, iNet Interactive and VCP Health Care Services. He is an observer of the iVize Board. David spent thirty years as an executive in the high tech industry, and has extensive experience in all phases of business, including M&A, fund-raising, corporate strategy and operations. He was CEO of HiFive!, an application service provider; CEO of Hipbone Networks, an online collaboration company; EVP and GM at Network Associates; COO of Network General; EIR at Institutional Venture Partners; and an executive at Hewlett-Packard, including ten years in the professional service/software divisions of HP. Mr. Carver has an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Arkansas.
Stephen Clearman, Limited Partner
Mr. Clearman is the managing partner of Kinderhook Partners, a partnership
which invests in a variety of businesses, primarily small publicly traded
companies. Earlier Mr. Clearman founded and managed Geocapital Partners, a
venture capital fund managing over $500 million in a series of partnerships
in North America and Europe. Before Geocapital, Mr. Clearman was a Partner
at Adler & Company, a NY-based venture capital firm. He was also a
consultant at Bain & Company. He has been a director of numerous public and
private companies. Mr. Clearman received a B.A. in Mathematics from
Haverford College, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia
University, and a J.D. from Harvard University.
Owen M. Colligan, Limited Partner
Mr. Colligan operates from the firm's Cleveland office. Mr. Colligan co-founded RockWood in September 1999 to focus on the acquisition of companies in the lower middle-market. Mr. Colligan is involved in all aspects of RockWood's activities from origination, analysis, negotiating, structuring, executing, and financing of transactions, as well as the ongoing management of RockWood investments. Prior to forming RockWood, Mr. Colligan worked in the New York and Hong Kong offices of Kelley Drye & Warren as a corporate attorney specializing in mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Colligan also worked as an investment banker at Schroder & Co. in New York. Mr. Colligan received a B.S. in finance from the University of Buffalo, a JD from New York University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Mr. Colligan currently serves on the Board of Directors of Global Thermoelectric, Inc.
David Dodson, Limited Partner
Mr. Dodson is currently the Managing Director of Headwaters MB. He has been the CEO or Chairman of six middle market companies and has acquired and/or sold 55 companies in that role. Mr. Dodson has also led multiple capital raises as CEO or Chairman with a range of private equity firms, including TA Associates, Bain Capital, Housatonic Partners, the Centennial Funds, and others. He currently serves as Chairman of Wind River Management Inc., was formerly Chairman of Worldbridge Broadband Services Inc., and has been Chairman & CEO of ADAP Inc. and Smith Alarm Inc. Mr. Dodson has served on the boards of 16 middle market companies in which he was also a private investor. As a board member, Mr. Dodson has played a role in numerous debt and equity raises as well as ten significant M&A transactions. Prior to his entrepreneurial and private equity career, Mr. Dodson worked for McKinsey & Company. He holds a Bachelors degree in economics from Stanford University and an MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.
William Egan, Limited Partner
Mr. Egan is a founder and General Partner of Alta Communications. He co-founded Alta’s predecessor firm, Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co., in 1979 and has identified and backed several of America’s leading growth companies in the information technology, life sciences, and communications industries. Prior to founding Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co., Mr. Egan was a Partner at TA Associates. He began his career as a Manager of Venture Capital for New England Enterprise Capital Corporation. Mr. Egan is the past President and Chairman of the National Venture Capital Association, a Trustee of Fairfield University, a Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania, and a Graduate Board Member of The Wharton School. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Village Voice Media and Cephalon, Inc. Mr. Egan received a degree in Economics from Fairfield University and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance.
Jaime Irick, Limited Partner
Mr. Irick currently serves as General Manager for GE Instrument Transformers Inc. Mr. Irick has global responsibility for ITI’s operations, business strategy, organizational development, sales, and marketing. Prior to joining the GE ITI team Mr. Irick was a Sales Director for GE Security, Homeland Protection where he and his team focused on new business growth opportunities in commercial markets outside of the government and transportation segments. Mr. Irick has also worked at GE Corporate Headquarters in the Corporate Initiatives Group (CIG). While in CIG, Mr. Irick helped to lead several company-wide sales and marketing initiatives focused on organic growth. Before joining GE, Mr. Irick held sales and operational roles for two startup companies, The NewsMarket, a media technology company based in New York City and ICLogistics. Mr. Irick served five years in the U.S. Army as a Field Artillery Officer and he is a qualified Airborne Ranger. Mr. Irick holds a BS degree in Systems Engineering from The United States Military Academy at West Point and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Brett Keith, Limited Partner
Mr. Keith operates from the firm's New York office. Mr. Keith co-founded RockWood in September 1999 to focus on the acquisition of companies in the lower middle-market. Mr. Keith is involved in all aspects of RockWood's activities from origination, analysis, negotiating, structuring, executing, and financing of transactions, as well as the ongoing management of RockWood investments. Earlier in his career, Mr. Keith worked as an investment banker in the Mergers & Acquisitions group of Lehman Brothers' New York office, and as the Controller of Jacobson Machine Works, a turnaround company owned by the private equity firm of Goldner, Hawn, Johnson & Morrison. Mr. Keith also served in an advisory role in the sale of his family-controlled pharmaceutical services company to American Medserve Corporation, an industry consolidation sponsored by the private equity firm of Golder, Thoma, Cressy, Rauner. Mr. Keith began his career as a financial consultant and Certified Public Accountant at Grant Thornton LLP and Arthur Andersen LLP. Mr. Keith received a B.A., with dual degrees in finance and accounting, from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Mr. Keith is currently on the Board of Directors of Global Thermoelectric, Inc., DeZURIK Water Controls, Artistic Holdings, and Action Legal. He is also on the Advisory Board of Granite Equity Partners, based in Minneapolis, MN.
Rich Kelley, Limited Partner
Mr. Kelley has spent the past 15 years as an operator, owner, and investor in numerous small businesses and start-up companies. His varied experience includes: CFO of Score Learning Centers, CEO of San Jose Giants, General Partner of two hotels, developer of houses and subdivisions, owner of office buildings, and investor in successful tech start-ups (Coinstar, PLX Technology, Corcept Therapeutics). He has also invested in many limited partnerships, including venture and private equity funds. Rich has an MBA and BA from Stanford University.
Larry Lepard, Limited Partner
Mr. Lepard has spent his entire 27 year career as an investor, principally focusing on venture capital opportunities. Prior to co-founding EMA, Mr. Lepard spent 13 years at Geocapital Partners, in Fort Lee, NJ. There he was one of two Managing General Partners and was responsible for several venture capital funds. Prior to Geocapital, Mr. Lepard spent 7 years at Summit Partners in Boston and California, where he was a General Partner in Summit I and Summit II. Mr. Lepard received his BA in Economics from Colgate University, and he received an MBA with Academic Distinction from Harvard Business School.
Michael O’Connell, Limited Partner
Mr. O’Connell is currently the Managing Director of M2O Investments, a family investment fund. He was formerly the Managing Director and President of Anhalt, O’Connell & Steffanci, Inc., an investment management firm specializing in debt securities with $1 billion under management. Previously, Mr. O’Connell owned and operated the National Lines Bureau, a ship mooring company for the Los Angeles and Long Beach Harbors. He is currently an investor in over 20 private companies. Mr. O’Connell received a BA, with high honors, from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Rafael Somoza, Limited Partner
Mr. Somoza most recently was the Co-Founder and CEO of VIU Media, Puerto Rico’s largest locally-owned outdoor advertising company, which was sold to Lamar Advertising. Prior to becoming CEO of VIU Media, he was the Co-Founder and CEO of Quest Management Corporation, a private equity group formed to identify, acquire, and operate a company in Puerto Rico. Previously, Mr. Somoza worked at CS First Boston, where he was involved in structuring over $1.2 billion in financings. He received the 2004 Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Media Category for Puerto Rico, and currently sits on the board of the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau. Mr. Somoza graduated cum laude, with a BA in Economics and Political Science, from Yale University and holds an MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.
James L. Southern III, Limited Partner
Mr. Southern is managing member of JS Capital Partners, an acquisition company focused on service businesses in high growth industries. He served as Chairman and CEO of Continental Fire & Safety Services, a privately held company providing fire safety services to commercial and industrial customers; and Uniform Printing, a national printer of specialty insurance forms and documents. Mr. Southern serves or has served on the boards of ten privately held companies and is an investor in more than 20 privately held companies. Mr. Southern received his BA from Southwestern University and MBA from Harvard Business School.
Jose Stella, Limited Partner
Mr. Stella most recently was the Co-Founder and President of VIU Media, Puerto Rico’s largest locally-owned outdoor advertising company, which was sold to Lamar Advertising. Prior to becoming President of VIU Media, he was the Co-Founder and President of Quest Management Corporation, a private equity group formed to identify, acquire, and operate a company in Puerto Rico. Previously, Mr. Stella worked at KPMG Peat Marwick in the middle-market Mergers & Acquisitions Advisory Group. He also worked for UBS and Chase Manhattan Bank. He received the 2004 Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Media Category for Puerto Rico. Mr. Stella graduated with high honors, with a BA in Economics, Finance and Investments, from Babson College and graduated cum laude with an MBA from The University of Michigan.
Howard Stevenson, Limited Partner
Mr. Stevenson is the Senior Associate Provost for Harvard University, and is also the Sarofim-Rock Professor of Business Administration and the Senior Associate Dean, Director of External Relations, at Harvard Business School. He has authored, co-authored, or edited six books, 41 articles, and over 150 Harvard Business School case studies. Mr. Stevenson was a founder and the first President of the Baupost Group, Inc., an investment management firm that manages partnerships investing in liquid securities for wealthy families, which he grew to over $400 million in assets. Mr. Stevenson is an investor and board member in numerous private and public companies. Mr. Stevenson received his BS in Mathematics, with distinction, from Stanford University and his MBA, with high distinction, and DBA degrees from Harvard Business School.
William N. Thorndike, Limited Partner
Mr. Thorndike is Managing General Partner of
Housatonic Partners (housatonicpartners.com), a
private equity firm he co-founded in 1994. He is a
graduate of Harvard College and the Stanford
Graduate School of Business. Mr. Thorndike is a

RockWood Equity Partners is a private equity firm based in New York and Cleveland that makes controlling investments in companies having revenues between $10 million and $100 million.
